October’s Very Own Owl

I watched the new video for Drake’s ‘Headlines’ yesterday, which will be the first single of his sophomore album ‘Take Care’. I like the word ‘sophomore’ by the way, it’s a shame I don’t get to use it more often. The video isn’t too spectacular, but I really liked the OVOXO jumpers featuring a huge owl. I need to find out where I can get one!

Oliver Peoples – Daddy B

I will admit that these sunglasses have one major drawback: the name. It’s impossible to make Daddy B sound cool or even remotely acceptable. If you want a cool name, buy some Ray Ban Wayfarers. However, in terms of looks these have got to be some of the best retro sun glasses ever. Plus, Jay-Z wears them which sort of makes the cool by default…

On a related note, it’s strange that Oliver Peoples’ commercial success seems to largely coincide with Brett Easton Ellis mentioning them in American Psycho, where Patrick Bateman (the sociopathic protagonist) wears non-prescription tortoise shell glasses by the same brand (in the movie adaption, Christian Bale has an identical pair) – not really the typical advertisement figure for a fashion brand – but I guess that it seems to have worked in their favour…

Kanye West for Louis Vuitton – The Jaspers

These came out some time ago, and the only place you can still find them is Ebay (if you’re lucky – and unlike me have about $ 1.200 to spare), but aren’t these the meanest looking kicks you have ever seen? And yes, I know that expression pushes the envelope far beyond the extraordinarily low level of street cred I could ever reasonably claim in the first place (those of you who know me in person will concur). So let’s just agree that they are rather nice shoes. The best thing about them has got to be the name though – they are called the ‘Jaspers’…

Cinelli x DVS

Italian bike manufacturer Cinelli has teamed up with DVS to produce a limited edition of shoes specifically designed for single speed riders. I should mention that I own no such bike and that consequently, I can’t really claim that this is of immediate importance to me. I do really like the look of these shoes though. And of course the bike in the background…

DVS has a section on their website dedicated to the Cinelli shoe. Check it out here.

Mr. Hare – King Tubby

One of my ambitions for the future is to own some Mr. Hare’s shoes. My favourite model is the ¬†King Tubby, pictured above and I think these look absolutely fantastic. I might have to start saving money first though… Besides making great shoes, Mr. Hare also has a very enjoyable¬†blog.
