Childish Gambino – Heartbeat

This post is a nice follow-up to yesterday’s, as Donald Glover actually chose his stage name Childish Gambino via the Wu-Tang name generator (if you don’t believe me, try it out). His debut album Camp came out last year and received somewhat mixed reviews with Pitchfork in particular showing little appreciation (one of my favourite blogs actually wrote a great reaction post to this). One of Pitchfork’s main criticisms was that Camp sounds like Kanye West’s earlier stuff – which is (somewhat) true. However, as one of Kanye’s biggest fans, I can’t really see what’s wrong with that… So yes, ‘Heartbeat’ is reminiscent of ‘808s and Heartbreak’, but that certainly hasn’t stopped me from listening to it a lot over the past months – and in my opinion, the visual for the track which was released a couple of days ago only adds to the appeal!
